If you’re ready to dive into a riotous rom-com that blends workplace drama, steamy romance, and a sprinkle of patriarchy-fighting fervor, then 'Not Safe for Work' by Lindsey Lanza is your next must-read! This book had me laughing, cringing, and swooning from cover to cover.
What Sparkles:
Olivia Diamond is anything but ordinary. Her vibrant personality and sparkly outfits light up the dull tech world, but she’s dealing with a post-breakup hangover and a frustrating glass ceiling at work. Enter Gavin Scott, her least favorite colleague who’s secretly been her biggest admirer since day one. The dynamic between Olivia and Gavin is electric! Their banter, their chemistry, and the way Gavin supports Olivia without overshadowing her—absolutely perfect. Plus, their fake dating scenario is a delicious twist that adds a lot of fun without the dreaded third-act breakup. 🙌
Gavin’s cute hedgehog, Churro, adds an extra layer of charm to the story. His relationship with his sister Gabby and Olivia’s family vineyard moments are sweet highlights. The San Francisco setting provides a vibrant backdrop, making their journey even more picturesque.
What Could Use a Bit More Sparkle:
While the characters are endearing and relatable, I found myself wanting just a tad more depth to fall completely in love with them. Olivia’s journey through workplace sexism is compelling, but some resolutions felt a bit rushed, especially towards the end regarding her boss and a harassing client. The pacing also hit a few slow patches, which took a bit of the steam out of the otherwise blazing romance.
The Bottom Line:
'Not Safe for Work' is a fantastic blend of humor, heart, and heat. If you enjoyed 'The Hating Game', you'll likely get similar vibes here, but with the added bonus of Gavin’s perspective. Olivia’s sparkle and determination are inspiring, and Gavin’s pining is endearing. Though it didn’t quite top my experience with Lanza’s 'A Little Magic', it’s still a delightful read that will have you rooting for Olivia and Gavin all the way.
Lindsey Lanza has a knack for weaving representation into her stories effortlessly, and this book is no exception. 'Not Safe for Work' accurately portrays the challenges of being a woman in the corporate world, and Olivia’s fight against the boys’ club is both relatable and empowering.
Final Thoughts:
I was thrilled to receive an ARC and join Olivia and Gavin on their quirky, steamy journey. This book made me grateful I’m not a corporate girly—I’d probably end up texting my way into chaos just like Olivia! If you’re in the mood for a love story that mixes the hilarious with the heartfelt and has a sassy heroine taking on the tech world, 'Not Safe for Work' is your jam. Can’t wait to see what Lindsey Lanza cooks up next! 🍷💻❤️
I received an ARC, and all thoughts in this review are my own. Thanks for the ride, Lindsey!
